When it comes to production, STP has led all 33 two-unit nuclear power plants in the U.S. for eight consecutive years: 2004 through 2011. In 2009, STP set a record in the nuclear power industry’s 50-year history by completing a fifth consecutive “breaker-to-breaker” production run - meaning the facility operated continuously for 18 months between refueling cycles five times in a row.

Nuclear facilities have the highest capacity factor - measure of maximum possible operation - of all power sources. The industry average is 90.5 percent. STP’s three-year net capacity factor of 98.87 percent leads all U.S. nuclear plants.

STP also has achieved the lowest production cost (1.356 cents per kilowatt-hour) and the lowest fuel cost (0.399 cents per kilowatt-hour) among U.S. nuclear power plants. Since uranium costs less than coal, natural gas and oil, STP has achieved the lowest fuel cost of all power plants in the country.
